TAYLOR & NICK | TAMAHERE
We love a wedding set at a personal venue like a family home. Taylor and Nick really wanted their day to encapsulate the full traditional wedding experience but created at a non traditional venue - so they got married at Taylor’s parents house. This formed a huge part of their day and their whole style and vibe they were going for. Everything from the clear marquee, to the festoon lights, to the clean cut white themed styling was on point. And lets be honest, you really can’t beat a clear marquee with festoon lights to dance the night away under!
Our wedding style was:
Very simple and clean. A lot of white.
Our love story began…
Back in 2014, we met through a mutual friend and have been inseparable ever since. We moved in together after only three months of dating, after a year we moved to the States together and then came back, got a pup and bought our first home. We’ve never really done things by halves.
Where did you purchase your dress and accessories from:
I bought my dress from Made With Love on the Gold Coast. Earrings were Brie Leon and shoes were Windsor Smith.
Tell us about your venue and why did you choose it:
We got married at my parent’s farm in Tamahere, Waikato. We had the ceremony and canapes up near the house in the shade and then had our reception down on the farm in a beautiful clear marquee under the stars.
Tell us about the proposal…
It was Valentine’s Day and Nick had planned for us to go back to where we had our first Valentine’s together - out sitting above the beach watching the sunset in Raglan. We had music and a platter as the sun went down and he suggested recreating a self-timer we had taken that first Valentines Day. Sneakily he popped it onto video and proposed in front of the sunset and then grabbed out the champagne and we stayed there until the first few stars came out.
We splurged on….
The clear marquee & documenting the day (photographers and videographer). For us, these were non-negotiables.
Do you have any tips for other brides & grooms?
When planning and organising, think of everything in the grand scheme of things. If something goes wrong or not to plan, at the end of the day, you still get to marry your love so don’t sweat the small stuff!
Keep time on your side/don’t leave everything to the last week. You will enjoy the lead up so much more if it is all pre-done.
Allow plenty of time for your guests to be seated. It will always take longer than you think. They will go to the bathroom, get caught in conversation, grab a fresh drink and it has been 30 minutes before you know it.
Invest in your non-negotiables. If you have things that you know you are super important to you, just take the leap and do it. You want to be able to look back and know that it was everything you could have dreamed of.
Eat in the morning while you’re getting ready!
We saved on….
Table decorations. We had a banquet style dinner, so didn’t want to invest a lot into our table decorations for it to be moved around to hold food etc. anyway. I find table settings are so easily forgotten by guests anyway so I kept it minimal.
Where did you find your inspiration for your wedding day:
A lot of Instagram scrolling and chatting with the Fiancé. We knew we wanted the ‘full wedding’ experience but also loved the idea of it not being at a traditional venue.
What were the highlights on the day:
I loved seeing it all come together. Having the wedding at a private property meant that everything was self-organised, from the furniture, to the toilets, to napkins, to lighting - everything! So it was amazing to see everyone enjoying the atmosphere and venue we had created. Obviously marrying my best friend was the ultimate highlight and then dancing the night away under the stars and festoons!
